OMG YOU GUYS.

OH MY GOD YOU GUYS!

I, er, got cuddles from John Barrowman today.

No, no, let's be proper about this. That was Torchwood filming, and we were in Wales. I got cwtches.

If I've squeed to you on AIM about this, you probably don't need to look under the cut. At any rate, if I've talked to you out of chat.

I heard about the likely filming from ze Internets (Google is my God. Seriously.) so I got down the Bay quite early this morning - about 10:30? And they were filming right in the centre, by the carousel. I can see Eve and Gareth right away, and then a few seconds later... omgaJackwhut. I get chatting to two other people, and we stand and watch them film for a while. Twice at least I get the opportunity to go up and talk to him... and fail miserably. I move, but I cannot speak. Was faily.

On the other hand, John was incredibly adorable with the kids. They were filming with one little girl, and in between takes he was chatting with her and making her giggle. Then when they move over to sit on the steps and film this little boy in the crowd with a TARDIS t-shirt on pipes up 'I've got a Dalek!'. And he stops and chats with him IC, all 'ooh, keep those away from me! I don't like those!' and shows him the communicator on Jack's wrist and lets him press the buttons. I HAVE SRSLY NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO CUTE IN ALL MY LIFE. John made watching twenty, thirty takes of the same scene interesting. I had no idea it was possible, but he kept flirting with the crowd, making silly faces, arsing about with New Kid, Eve and Gareth, even randomly bursting into song in between takes. He was awesome.

Also? While on set, he keeps a banana in the greatcoat pocket. A banana. I giggled over that for a long time. Of course, when he ate it, he ate it filthily. I approved so hard.

Anyway, when I realised John was there I texted my friend Amy from school - [livejournal.com profile] seren_cymraeg. She had stuff to do, but when she realised it was a John omg she took the hour and a half to make it down to the Bay. She also got on well with Becca and Rhys, the two people I'd met, so we stuck together. The squee is better in a group, after all.

So, after the first attempt and several OMG CANNOT MOVE WHAT IF HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE INTERRUPTED abortive attempts, I decide to take a leaf out of Emma's book from when she met Burn Gorman on her own. Because hey, either I can look crazy for just standing there and staring, or I can look crazy by standing there briefly and giving him a note. Which read roughly "Hi John, I'm Bethan. I keep trying to talk to you and failing, but please can I have a hug and a photo? Xx Bethan (the girl in the pink t-shirt)." I manage to at least say hi and hand him said note while he and GDL are walking to the new locations. He looks a bit grumpy, but he reads it almost immediately, and he keeps it in the greatcoat pocket while filming cuteness with Ianto. And in between takes he re-reads it once or twice and looks over occasionally and smiles. Then when he goes off for lunch with Eve and New Kid he mouths 'Sorry, I don't have time now!' in my direction. Went off with new friends and Amy for a fun, chattery lunch, though I was flailing of woe in an 'OMG WHAT IF HE DOESN'T COME BACK?' kind of way. I had fail. So much fail. I knew I was being stupid, but damn me if there wasn't bugger all I could do about it.

We went for a wander around the bay after lunch, and saw GDL in costume as Ianto wandering around holding hands with his girlfriend while still on his lunch break. Was weird image - GDL and girlfriend are cute (girlfriend is nice lady! Teaboy and I got chatting with her outside a gig a while back), but Ianto should be holding hands with Jack, damnit. Strange mental dissonance there.

After about an hour, just before my OMGFLAIL reaches critical mass, they arrive - John, Eve and New Kid all pile out of a car. I've gone scouting on my own to see if they're arriving, and promptly call Amy. There's no sign of her, but I manage to intercept them on their way to the next bit of filming. I manage a 'Hi, John?' and he turns and smiles and says 'hi!' and holds out his arms.

He folds me into a real tight hug, and my brain hits terminal squee. And suddenly I can talk to him! Vaguely normally, at that.

He lets me go, and says to be quick if I want a photo, which he eventually winds up taking (twice, 'cause he failed at photo-ing the first time) while he cwtches me, and says 'thanks for the note', and laughs. I laugh too, and say that I don't know why I couldn't talk to him, since I'd managed to talk to David Tennant fine. And he grins and says 'it's probably because I'm bigger than he is!' and Eve laughs and so do I. "I thought he was the Ten-Inch?" answer I, eyebrow raised, and he smirks and says that's just a rumour.

But they really have to get moving to the set - the security man is really grumpy that they stopped at all - so I just giggle and say thanks very much, etcetera, and bounce off. I LOVE HIM, SRSFAX.

And then Amy and the cavalry turn up, and I'm like 'omg where were you?' whilst still kind of gleeful 'cause I got John Barrowman all to myself while there's huge crowds waiting ages for them over at Ianto's shop. They're only there for about fifteen minutes more, doing takes of the four of them running towards Ianto's door. (Jack and Ianto doing synchronised running in the lead! Was MADE OF CUTE.) Amy is naturally miffed that she missed John just previously, but we notice somebody else getting him to pose Jackishly for a photo by waiting just where the take ends. So we get down there just in time for the last take, and he says he can't do more photos at first but then agrees to do just one more - with Amy. So she is happy. And then I bounce off for work - later than planned, but I nearly had to call in sick because it was only overtime and Amy wouldn't stay down there without me, although she did offer me a tenner to do it. But after that she's happy to stay with the others while I go off to catch the bus, and gets to meet Eve and get a hug and an autograph once I'm gone.

Photobucket
I LOVE MY CITY.

So then I toddle off to work, which by God was exhausting. But I didn't care, because I got cwtches from John Barrowman today.

Right. So what we actually saw of the filming: I got there a few hours after they did, so I didn't see it all.

There was one new main character: a young man, mid-twenties?, very slim and not very tall, dark hair (Torchwood has no blondes. Torchwood needs no blondes!), accent that, off-set at least, flirted with Scottish I thought. He was always carrying folders; I can't remember if he had glasses or not, but he reminded me a little of geeky!Owen. No idea as to his name, but I overheard somebody ask him if he was the new Torchwood member, and he said something like 'Most probably'.

The first scene I saw involved all four of them, plus a little blonde girl and (presumably) her mother. Gwen and New Kid run up to mother and daughter, then off runs New Kid. Jack and Ianto run up from the direction of Ianto's entrance; the only lines we heard were from Jack, something along the lines of "what's happening? What's that noise?" Ianto runs off after New Kid, then a weird, robotic, metallic voice starts up, really loud. "We... We... We... We..." And suddenly the little girl is chiming in with it, chanting too. Then it becomes "We are... We are... We are..." and eventually "We are coming... We are coming... We are coming..." and the little girl runs off, followed by her mother, calling for her to come back. I think the kid's name was Sasha?

From that they moved to Jack and Ianto sitting together on the steps of the basin, talking. Couldn't hear what they said, but it looked cute though not particularly couple-y. Eventually Jack stands up and grins and says something flirty-looking (surprise surprise) and laughs.

Then they went to lunch.

After lunch, they filmed only one short scene: all four of them running towards the Bay entrance to Torchwood, the one that's usually got the windows covered with Doctor Who newspapers. Jack and Ianto were doing some very entertaining synchronised running in the lead, then Gwen behind them, then New Kid trailing a little behind Gwen. I left after that, and so did John Barrowman, but they were supposed to keep filming til about 7 tonight.
