When and if I land my dream job at the Beeb, I plan on getting the following quote from [livejournal.com profile] warren_ellis tattooed on my leg, probably just above my right ankle. (Yes, I know, that area will hurt like hell. I'VE GOT MY HEART SET ON IT OKAY.)

"Journalism is just a gun. It’s only got one bullet in it, but if you aim right, that’s all you need. Aim it right, and you can blow a kneecap off the world."
(Transmetropolitan Vol. 1: Back on the Street)

My other dream tattoo would be one of the watercolour-style ones [livejournal.com profile] apiphile linked on Twitter ages back, but of a nebula in space with a tiny, tiny TARDIS and the words 'Across time and space...'. Not so much because I'm an utter Whoniverse geek (although I am, that wouldn't be enough for me to get a tattoo) but because of the four insane, wonderful, geeky years I've spent in Cardiff and the friends I've made and the things I've learned here.

(The it-could-never-happen-but-I'd-have-it-if-it-could tattoo would be the same as Briar Moss's from Tamora Pierce's Circle books: vines of tiny flowers tattooed all the way across his hands, which bud and flower and bloom of their own accord. I would kill for my hands to look like that.)

What do you guys want tattoos of? If you already have some, what do you think you'll get tattoos of next? And if you could get anything at all tattooed, what would it be?

Not got any yet, but when I can afford it I'm planning on getting a tattoo of the Heartless emblem from Kingdom Hearts (http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090820081857/kingdomhearts/images/2/20/Heartless_hires.png). I know fandom tattoos are kind of silly, but I think it's abstract enough to work as just a pretty symbol for people unfamiliar with KH too.

I still want my raven tattoo! I haven't gotten it, yet, because I can't settle on a spot.

I'd also like a literary tat, probably across my inner forearm. Except then I think about how that part of my body will look when I'm 80, and I go D:

ALSO. I'm considering the crest on this flag because... I'm a giant dork and I left a huge chunk of my soul in Nova Scotia.

And I might like something related to my family, as well. Not the crest, but a symbol, maybe.

IN SHORT: I REALLY WANT TO BE INKED

If I ever work up the nerve (and the financial wherewithal) to get a tattoo, I want it to be of something I've loved for so long I know I'll always love it. Something that has helped to define me. Which, more likely than not, will be something fannish that I have life associations with outside fandom. Labyrinth would be a good source, for instance - we rented it over and over when I was a kid, and then I rediscovered it as a teenager, and I still love it. Or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, because it had such an impact on my late adolescence and I made so many friends because of it, some of whom I am still in touch with. Hell, if I wait long enough, Doctor Who will become eligible and then I can get a TARDIS. See, I am a wimp and am likely only going to be able to put myself through the process once, so it needs to be something that counts.

If I were just going for aesthetics, though: the Torchwood logo (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4e/Torchwood_logo.svg) would make an awesome tattoo.

Interesting quote. Bit long mind, would you have it going around or as a paragraph?

I would like a tattoo on the theme of this icon, with Angel from X-men jumping out of the window and flying away to escape the mutant cure. For me, the scene stands for fighting against people who try and make those who are different conform. I would need someone to design it though. It's not happening until I can afford it.

The other thing I would get a tattoo of is a cross on my chest if wearing religious jewellry becomes illegal or not permitted in medical work.

Next tattoos: the rune 'raidho' on the inside of my right wrist, the first line of Mayakovsky's poem 'Listen!' in non-cursive Cyrillic on one of my shoulderblades, and possibly someday a Pictish tramp stamp. Because Pictish carvings are some of the most insanely beautiful stuff in the wooooooorld. 'Next' is a very loose word here, although I think there's a good chance that the rune will happen within a year or so.

I want "221B" somewhere in quite small, and the following Kurt Vonnegut vote:

The 2 prime movers in the Universe are Time and Luck.

Well, since you asked... *points at this LJ icon* I have this as a tattoo at the top of my right arm - it's the ShinRa logo from 'Final Fantasy VII'. I can't remember if I already told you that or not! ^_^

As for what other tattoos I want... whew! The Team X symbol from 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', Deacon Frost's symbol from 'Blade', the Gangrel symbol from 'Vampire: the Masquerade', the Bone Gnawers symbol from 'Werewolf; the Apocalypse', the Eye of Horus, the symbol of Shar from 'Forgotten Realms', the Skaven Horned Rat from 'Warhammer', the Squad Six logo from 'Bleach', the 'Gears of War' logo, the 'Halo' logo, some Russian script, some Covenant script from 'Halo', and maybe a red dragon snaking its way up my left arm.

...for starters, anyway. ¬_¬
