Question for the flist! Because I have no idea whatsoever.

Given that I am the cis-iest of the cisgendered and want to write a transgendered character, I am very conscious of Not Wanting To Get This Wrong. I can research all the 'hard facts' easily enough, but do you have any suggestions for somewhere to ask about things like 'if I post in with Kim's teenaged, pre-transitioned self, who uses male pronouns, is it acceptable to use male pronouns in the narration as well at that point?'. I have no idea where these sorts of questions would be acceptable, have no intention of asking my transgendered friends outright (on the grounds that it's not their jobs to educate me just because I'm their friend), and asking somewhere like a trans*-related post at [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political or similar screams of derailing.

Currently, I am looking at just doing my best with what I'm unsure of and including in Kim's user info something along the lines of 'Kim's mun is cisgendered and is doing her best not to screw up. Please don't hesitate to tell me if you think I'm failing in this.'

But otherwise, dearest flist, I come to you. Any ideas?

...Dude, screw that emo shit. I MET BURN GORMAN AND ROWAN ATKINSON IN THE SPACE OF AN HOUR LAST NIGHT.

(Well, still not entirely happy, but a lot better now. It's amazing what fangirl squee can do for your mood.)

Lauren and I decided to have a shot at hanging round outside Oliver! to see him when we came out, since we weren't that far away and [livejournal.com profile] galacticconman had told us when it finished. We had to wait a while (I was actually quite surprised by the size of the crowd that wound up outside the stage door, probably because I am an idiot), but eventually Jodie SomethingOrOther (who plays Nancy) came out, and while she was busy being mobbed (she was, incidentally, very nice - Lauren got her autograph, and she seemed a good giggle) out sneaks Burn, hood up. I nearly missed him, and I was looking out for him, but luckily the only other Torchwood fans in the crowd nabbed him before he passed us. He seemed happy enough to be recognised, and chatted to Lauren and I for a few minutes (he says hi, Em!), but clearly didn't want to stop long. However, he posed for a photo with Lauren and gave her a cute autograph, and then when I asked for a photo too and had difficulty getting to him for it (stupid crowds) he said something along the lines of 'oh, come here' and pulled me through the crowd and really close against him. It definitely counted as a snug, he was holding me tight while Lauren took the photo. And I was happy. :D

Photos! Burn and Lauren, then Burn and me. We hearts the Gorman, we does. )

Burn Gorman = resounding sweetie. And, as Lauren said, much better looking in real life. Okay, there's still something of a resemblance to an underfed wide-mouthed tree frog there, but the camera does him even less favours than it does me, and that's saying something.

We had to wait ages for Rowan to turn up: Lauren and I were half-frozen and the couple I'd been exchanging Blackadder quotes with had given up by the time he appeared. Even we, hardened Blackadder fangirls that we are, were well into the last ten minutes we were prepared to wait when he popped out like a ninjalike, tiny black weevil. I had no idea the guy was so short! He was only about my height, and clearly very quiet. He wasn't saying very much to anyone, just occasional 'thank you for coming's with his head down, and not personalising autographs. I was a little sad about this (totally not because I wanted him to say my name with that awesome, hilariously funny voice he's got going, whut). But after he signed for Lauren and I, I went back a second time to say 'thank you ever so much, you must be frozen' (he was only wearing a jumper, and I felt frostbitten in mittens, hoodie, boots and thick coat), and he finally looked up and gave me a rather nice smile as he said 'you're welcome', and goodbye.

Not much at all, but a lot more than anyone else in that crowd got, so I was happy. <3 Blackadder.

Rowan signing. He really is slightly weevil-like. )

Round-up of the rest of the London trip to follow.

In other news, the BBC has cast yet another young white guy as the new Doctor. Hear the sound of my resounding lack of surprise.

I am disappointed, though. The odds on Paterson Joseph were so good that I really hoped we might have someone a bit different in the role for once.

I totally wanted Meera Syal, though, damnit. *sulks*

Backdated (i.e. typed in MS Word) because my father for some reason decided to switch the wifi off before I could get to it.

Am pretty! Have pretty hair still, and had pretty makeup and pretty jewellery and gorgeous dress. Being chief bridesmaid odd job, but good fun. Alas, will not have pretty (professionally done! JOY) hair (with peekaboo fringe! Rather like, but not for allthetime) much longer, as need to take pins out and, y’know, actually sleep now. Am impressed with the way hairstyle (a little bit curled, a little bit sleek, more than a little bit PRETTY) has held out, although it was probably helped by the half a can of hairspray the hairstylist used on it. And pins.

Am pretty drunk – you would not believe the number of typos I’m making typing this. Thank God for spellcheck. Would leave typos as they are, but am not too drunk to notb notice the red lines and retype until I get the right thing.

Mmmm, free bar. Drank a ridiculous amount of Pimms (five or six glasses in half an hour), rather a lot of Jack Daniel’s and lemonade (er, three or four doubles? Ish), one Jack Daniel’s and coke (dunno if double or not – it was bought for me so I necked it, as you do) and three double Southern Comforts and lemonades (they taste like Refreshers!). Mmm.

Well. Was free bar. Would have been rude not to indulge, amIrite? More corridors should have bars in them.

I kissed a boy and I liked it. Dunno what’ll happen there, but am not overly bothered either way. Shall see.

Definitely drunk. My brain is intriguingly fuzzy and my vision weird. My balance and movement even weirder, and by my standards that’s saying something. Sleeping now. Au revoir pretty hair. D: (Though I might leave the pins in and see if I can sleep with it that way.)

Night!

Re: This, I went 'Ooh. Shiny!'.

Re: Doctor Who, I went 'EEEEEEEE SHINY SHINY OMG DAVID MORRISSEY OMG ROSITA OMG TEN EEEEE SHINY.' *happy fangirl*

I had issues with it as far as plot went, and I had issues with it on the feminism front, but that was afterwards. While I was watching it, it swept me along and I loved it.

Omg two new headvoices. Burning question: Who do I app??? *jazzhands of gleeful indecision*

Off to bed now. Night!

Back!

Didn't die, so much. Pretty sure I passed, but don't think I did much more than that. Ah well, doesn't matter this year.

Off to meet [profile] analogboyuk for food and (lots of highly-alcoholic) drinks, since I, er, haven't actually eaten yet today. *starving*

Later all!

NO MORE EXAMS NO MORE EXAMS NO MORE EXAMS YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!

So. I Milliconned (twice in two days. Jeebus.), I lied about cocking up the dates of Leicester open day, I caught six trains in one day, none of which were on time. I had four minutes to catch my connection from Birmingham Fucking New Street, people. God knows how I did it, I don't.

But I met up with a Charlotte and a Clare, for much glee and win. And I took a Saph round Cardiff yesterday, but that is a tale for another time. And now I am home from Leicester and safe, so this is me checking in.

And now this is me crashing for the night. Ohgod don't make me work tomorrow... *whimpers*

I totally should update this thing, shouldn't I?

Yes, Bethan, you totally should.

Hokay, then. History coursework, forever may it be damned, has gone in forever. MuahahahahthankGodforthat. Not that it was particularly difficult to write 4000 words (not including sources; mine was actually in the region of 5120 words) on the causes of the Holocaust, but man, it was Not Fun. I loathe Daniel Jonah Fuckin' Goldhagen, and his horrible horrible disgusting book. I loathe it greatly.

UCAS form has also been sent off. I've since been sent Conditional Offers by Exeter, Aston and Leicester, woo, and two interviews by Swansea (I applied for two courses there- French/English and French/Language Studies). But nowt from Cardiff, which makes me wibbly. Also, one of the Swansea interviews (in which I will have to speak French, at least for part of the time) is scheduled for like two hours after my January Module English Language exam finishes next month. JAYSUS. My mother insisted I attend anyway, so I am. HELP.

Um. The parents went away for their week in Gran Canaria, as scheduled, had a whale of a time and have apparently bought timeshare. It all looks very lovely, but it also sounds WAY TOO FUCKING HOT. Also, I wanted to go to America next year, like they'd been talking about. Or possibly France again. Not Gran Canaria. Which I'm sure is very lovely, but dude. AMERICA, DAMNIT. Preferably America at the time of Millicon, is that bad? >.<
Speaking of Millicons, many things about staying home went to hell in a handbasket and not in the fun way. Out of the three or four reasons why I chose to stay home: Millicon, fun on the last day of term, Christmas Party at mine on the Monday, last school Christmas Concert, only the Millicon actually happened. Which is possibly partially because my RL friends suck, sometimes. They had nothing to do with the concert, admittedly- that was my sucky school. BUT. Party, damnit! *whinges* ;_;

Millicon, however, was made of win and awesome and crazyfolks. It was a Silly Con. (On second thoughts, let us not have a Millicon. It is a silly con. /Monty Python) I <3 my Millifolken to death. And also the Ellie and Pip who helped make it possible, Ellie in particular for lending money and coming shopping and helping with lifts. There was a Charlotte! And a Lauren! And a Nny! (Who has the best expressions ever. I want a Nny of my very own. Also a Lauren and a Charlotte. *adamant*) But I also didn't get more than five and a half hours' sleep a night for like, five nights. >.> It was insane, in a totally worth it kind of way. I'm so proud of myself for organising it, even if I did spend way too much money on food. And I only cried over organisingomg once, and only then for like thirty seconds, so that was okay, I guess. My parents know that there was a con (they've seen the photos), but they don't know that I had internet people sleeping in the house for two nights. At least, I didn't tell them I did, but they may have figured out from such things as finding Debi's piratey coins down the back of the sofa. After they came home the night con ended, I realised that I had to squee to them about it or risk asploding, so I gave them an edited version and they gave the impression that they wouldn't have minded too much if eight Millipeople (okay, maybe eight would have been pushing it) had slept over, but better safe than sorry. And really, so long as I'm not in trouble for it I don't much care how much they know.
The first night, Thursday, I met Amy, Kate, Debi and Lauren at the train station after school, then we caught the bus back to mine. Pip and Ellie turned up, dealt pretty well with the general geeky mayhem, considering, and we watched Red Dwarf and Spaced and ate pizza and drank booze. And then later we watched Pirates of the Caribbean (the first one) and made fun of it. ("He likes my hat!") Got emails from Marthe and Sal saying they wouldn't be turning up, so Pip talked Jocelyn into taking up the extra pantomime ticket and a fun time was had by all.
Friday morning we went into Cardiff quite late on in the morning, and met first Nny and then Charlotte at the train station. Pip and Jos had shopping to do so they split off from us for most of the time, and we pottered geekily around Cardiff until pantomime. Which was amazing, in that wonderfully crap, campy sort of way the best pantomimes are. John Barrowman is so much love, even (especially) when he's forgetting his words and cracking up with laughter on stage. We didn't get to go down the Bay, very sadly. Nor did we get to meet the lovely JB, but I intend to work on that one. And then, because most of the trains had gone and I severely doubted eight girls, several of whom were in pirate costume, would survive Newport bus station at 11 on a Friday night (someone got stabbed two streets over a couple of weeks back, for instance, and I'm pretty sure they died) we took a huge and absolutely extortionately-priced cab back to mine. Where we geeked out and ate pizza and watched part one of The Hogfather (which was amazing) and then fell asleep.
Saturday we went into Town (Newport) pretty early to drop a Charlotte off at the train station. Her train was ridiculously late, though this was hardly surprising really. It's British Rail, after all. *eyeroll* Then back to mine for a while for more geekery, then into Cardiff to drop the others off- first Nny at the train station, then the rest at Cardiff Castle to meet the Megabus, which was also ridiculously late. Fucking British Rail. And then Ellie came back to mine to help tidy up (note to self: make [profile] millibrits post concerning Things Left At Mine) and then went home, and a few hours later the parents turned up early. And that was Cardiffcon 06. It was amazing and crazy and the best thing ever, but next time? Someone else can organise. Anyone so long as they're not me.

Also? Also Christmas. My work timetable is fucking ridiculous, frankly. I've been handed a load of extra shifts (today, for example, I worked 9-6) and basically been told I either work them or hand in my notice. WTF, Halfords? I am also working New Year's Day, my first year of being legal to drink. FUCKERS. Ugh. But Christmas itself has been pretty great. I got many things, but my big present was a TV/DVD combi from the 'rents. Also I <3 my handmade bag from Charlotte. :D

And that? That is about it. And it is now 1am and my laptop battery and I are dying fast, so I'm going to crash. Peace out, folks, and a merry Christmas to y'all. *sends hugs*
