...Dude, screw that emo shit. I MET BURN GORMAN AND ROWAN ATKINSON IN THE SPACE OF AN HOUR LAST NIGHT.

(Well, still not entirely happy, but a lot better now. It's amazing what fangirl squee can do for your mood.)

Lauren and I decided to have a shot at hanging round outside Oliver! to see him when we came out, since we weren't that far away and [livejournal.com profile] galacticconman had told us when it finished. We had to wait a while (I was actually quite surprised by the size of the crowd that wound up outside the stage door, probably because I am an idiot), but eventually Jodie SomethingOrOther (who plays Nancy) came out, and while she was busy being mobbed (she was, incidentally, very nice - Lauren got her autograph, and she seemed a good giggle) out sneaks Burn, hood up. I nearly missed him, and I was looking out for him, but luckily the only other Torchwood fans in the crowd nabbed him before he passed us. He seemed happy enough to be recognised, and chatted to Lauren and I for a few minutes (he says hi, Em!), but clearly didn't want to stop long. However, he posed for a photo with Lauren and gave her a cute autograph, and then when I asked for a photo too and had difficulty getting to him for it (stupid crowds) he said something along the lines of 'oh, come here' and pulled me through the crowd and really close against him. It definitely counted as a snug, he was holding me tight while Lauren took the photo. And I was happy. :D

Don't much like the photo of me, but then I never do. And as you can('t really) see, the (totally awesome) curse of the Muppets hoodie strikes again. Fwee.

Burn Gorman = resounding sweetie. And, as Lauren said, much better looking in real life. Okay, there's still something of a resemblance to an underfed wide-mouthed tree frog there, but the camera does him even less favours than it does me, and that's saying something.

We had to wait ages for Rowan to turn up: Lauren and I were half-frozen and the couple I'd been exchanging Blackadder quotes with had given up by the time he appeared. Even we, hardened Blackadder fangirls that we are, were well into the last ten minutes we were prepared to wait when he popped out like a ninjalike, tiny black weevil. I had no idea the guy was so short! He was only about my height, and clearly very quiet. He wasn't saying very much to anyone, just occasional 'thank you for coming's with his head down, and not personalising autographs. I was a little sad about this (totally not because I wanted him to say my name with that awesome, hilariously funny voice he's got going, whut). But after he signed for Lauren and I, I went back a second time to say 'thank you ever so much, you must be frozen' (he was only wearing a jumper, and I felt frostbitten in mittens, hoodie, boots and thick coat), and he finally looked up and gave me a rather nice smile as he said 'you're welcome', and goodbye.

Not much at all, but a lot more than anyone else in that crowd got, so I was happy. <3 Blackadder.

Round-up of the rest of the London trip to follow.

In other news, the BBC has cast yet another young white guy as the new Doctor. Hear the sound of my resounding lack of surprise.

I am disappointed, though. The odds on Paterson Joseph were so good that I really hoped we might have someone a bit different in the role for once.

I totally wanted Meera Syal, though, damnit. *sulks*

I swear, woman, you have more celebrity encounters per month than I've had in my entire life! And you look adorable in that photo.

You're right - Burn Gorman looks better in these pics than in anything else that I've seen him in! I've largely been unmoved by his charms, but here he's charmingly cute.

Burn hugs are the bestest! (yesimbias) XD

*squee* I have to go back and see him again. The fact he says hi makes me not stop smiling. I'm so glad you got to meet them!

BURN!!!!

*jealousy ensues*

And dude. 11 has emo hair. Paterson Joseph just cannot compete with the emo. *wink*

(Seriously though - I'm quite optimistic about the whole thing - although Meera or Joseph would have been made of more awesome than anything ever.)

Whoops! Wasn't thinking. Consider it cut, although I'm leaving the photo of Meera Syal uncut because it's fairly small and she's really awesome.

I'm sorry I never got to see you much this weekend, but I honestly did not have the money to stay in Cardiff - I couldn't even have afforded a taxi back to our house, and when Dad offered a lift home I took it rather than have to walk through Cardiff at midnight on a Saturday night. I promise to come and see you when I have money again!

Burn is one of the few celebrities I can say who is truly really nice to his fans. I can't wait to go see Oliver in March.

All of the Torchwooders I've met have always been lovely to me, but I think John, Eve and Burn have been the loveliest. Burn really is such a sweetie, and Eve's giggly 4am impressions of a French horse-riding instructor (complete with cigarette) take some beating, but I'll always love John for stopping to open his arms and give the struck-dumb-with-shy girl a hug and a chat.

I got to meet John when he was in Toronto filming for the Canadian version of Maria, and he was fantastic. It really stuck with me that he actually took the time to speak to each person individually, made them feel appreciated, rather than just quickly signing things and running away.

Gareth on the other hand....he's a nice enough guy, but I wasn't too impressed with at D*C, but it may be he was just kind of off in that environment.

Yeah. He really seems to appreciate the fact that he has fans -- maybe because he never expected to get so famous. But when he talks to you you just get the feeling that he's happy to be talking to you.

Gareth is probably the least friendly of the Torchwooders. He's always been nice to me, but I've heard a lot of stories about him being rude or just disinterested with fans. Maybe I've just always got lucky, maybe it's that I've met him a few times (living in the area helps. A good friend from school is very good friends with the drummer in his band, which helps too) and so he knows that I don't stick around long and am not obviously crazy... Who knows.

I think, for Gareth, is its probably because he's had to deal with the more insane enthusiastic fans, so he's more standoffish, rather than encouraging a possible nutcase.

From: [identity profile] bethan-b-bad.livejournal.com
You may well be right - the first time I met him, season 1 had only just gone out so the insanity hadn't really had time to pick up, which may be why he looked both surprised and pleased to be recognised. Granted, John gets the crazy fans on a daily basis, but he's... John.

Although we have some friends-of-friends in common (oh God, I sound like such a twit saying this stuff, but I swear it's just because we come from the same area), and I do get the impression that he can be something of a wanker when he pleases.

John has also been doing this whole thing a lot longer than Gareth, so he's used to it and has developed ways of dealing with it without coming off looking like an ass.

I do get the impression that he can be something of a wanker when he pleases.

In other words, Gareth is a typical male....lol.

*chuckles* Pretty much.

I met his ex after a gig once.

Her: Who'd you come to see?
Me: Oh, Blue Gillespie. *laughs* I have a crush on their singer.
Her: We used to date
Inner!Me: Well, she's at his gig, can't have been a bad break-up... Right?
Me: Really? I'm jealous.
Her: Don't be.

*shakes head* Only in Cardiff...
