My God, but men have sucked hardcore these past few days. Eric, are you sure you’re male? You’re far too awesome to be male, judging by what I’ve seen of them of late. <3

Sule in particular really is kind of a dick, it turns out, but fuck him. When I came in last night the housemates were awesome at me and we sat in Michelle’s room with bucketmugs of tea (provided by Teaboy) and raspberry turnovers (provided by Teaboy’s dad) and bitched and then geeked. I have the best housemates ever, trufax.

Have now seen Star Trek twice, and just WOW. There is seriously not enough Simon Pegg in that movie, though. Admittedly, and as Michelle pointed out, it could have been The Scotty Movie (We Don’t Give A Shit About Kirk) and there would still not have been enough Simon Pegg in that movie, but nonetheless. More coherent thoughts coming when I have time.

And now I’m in London, so yay! I get to see Del des Anges be funny at an audience tonight. :D

Bonus meme. Snagged from half the flist, it seems like by now.

List three characters from ten favourite books. The challenge is to guess what the books are! (all first names, for consistency)

1. Neville, Dean, Stan
2. Nealan, Yukimi, Buriram
3. Briar, Rosethorn, Berenene
4. Oskar, Poldek, Itzhak
5. Anathema, Pepper, Brian
6. Lizzy, Jane, Charlotte
7. Sam, Cheery, Brick
8. Jenny, Agatha, Matilda
9. Annette, Sam, Gabriel
10. Jean-Baptiste, Violette, Clementine (I will hug you if you get this one...)

And another five, because I was bored on the train:
11. Sherlock, John, Henry
12. Cathaline, Alaizabel, Thaniel
13. Martin, Bella, Gonff
14. Hercule, Ariadne, Rhonda
15. Larry, Theodore, Spiro

Oh yes, they were the series I started with. I read Magic Steps because I found it at the library, and didn't really understand a lot of the plot because of being new to the series but liked it enough to pick up the earlier books, and promptly fell in love. But yes, Will of the Empress it is! I'm unreasonably fond of that book.

Hee! Magic Steps was my first of that series, too. I'm very fond of the Circle books, I enjoy them much more than I did Alanna. Not that I don't like Aly. I only got to read Will of the Empress for the first time a couple of months ago, it seems awkward to find cheaply.

I enjoyed the Alanna books (and also the Daine ones until her level of Mary Sueishness started to grate on me), but they're not my favourite of the Tortall lot: that's the Protector of the Small quartet. Kel is my favourite of her Tortallan protagonists, and she gets a whole book's worth of interaction with another of my favourites: Raoul.

I ordered my copy just after it came out, I think, so I got the hardback. I've very rarely seen it anywhere at all offline, so I can imagine it would be tricky to find for a sensible price.

Mm. I'm twitchy about getting hold of the Protector of the Small books, given I read the prologue at the end of my paperback copy of WotE and it doesn't sound like something I'd like. I wouldn't call myself a Tortall fan in general, but I like Aly.

*nod* It is that. Cost me about £6 inclusive of postage, fortunately, which is more than I'm used to paying for new paperbacks, but it'll do me. Her paperbacks are unabridged, I asked to check :)

I haven't read Aly's books beyond the samples I've seen in different books/online, but I wasn't keen on her. Something about her bugged me.

I did the exact same thing as you with PotS, and as a result didn't read it for ages, but when I did I fell in love with them and now they're my favourites. Kel is much more grounded and down to earth than her other heroines, and I recommend giving her more of a chance than just the prologue - after all, it put me off too.

*nodnods* Shiny! :D

Eh, IDK. I can't stand Alanna, m'self, but I know there are a lot of people who love her. Each to their own, I'm guessing :)

Heh. How much Alanna is there?

Shiny indeed! ^_^

I like Alanna, but I don't adore her - she's definitely not a favourite character.

There's not much at all, actually! She gets mentioned in the first two (I think she might pop up very briefly in the second), appears a few times in the third, and gets a line or two at the beginning of the fourth but that's about it.

(And now the laptop appears to be dying, so I'm finally off to bed. Night!)
